BUILDING BUSINESS AT THE MULTIPLEX
THE MULTIPLEX FACILITIES
WILL BE A
TRUE ECONOMIC INVESTMENT
Moose Jaw is a terminus on Saskatchewan’s most vibrant
economic region:
the Moose Jaw–Regina corridor.
The Multiplex project
is an opportunity to create a defining feature and
a marketplace advantage for Moose Jaw, unleashing huge potential
to attract new long-term residents and businesses to our
community
— adding to the municipal tax base and enriching our
community.
The economic advantages of the Multiplex project are many:
- The Warriors will stay in Moose Jaw because the arena
will meet
WHL standards (the team will be forced to relocate if it cannot
play
in a league-standard arena)
- The city tax base will grow
because new residents will be
attracted to Moose Jaw, especially parents seeking a small-town
feel with amenities ideal for raising their families and young
people
who work in the vicinity who place high value on access to
top-quality recreation amenities
- Economic activity will increase because the Multiplex
project will
complement crucial economic development initiatives in Project
Moose Jaw, invigorating the economy just as the Temple Gardens
Mineral Spa, Casino Moose Jaw, Tunnels of Moose Jaw and the
Yvette Moore Gallery have done so successfully already
- Businesses will find it easier to recruit and retain
employees
because young workers needed for economic expansion will be
encouraged to stay and live in a city with top-quality recreation
opportunities
- New revenue-generating opportunities will be created
because
we’ll have appropriate venues for:
- Concerts and large-scale entertainment events
- Agricultural and industrial fairs
- Conferences and trade shows
- Tournaments, bonspiels and other major sporting
competitions
- Spin-off revenue will flow from visitors
who come from across the
province and beyond to take part in large events, eating in
our
restaurants, shopping in our stores and staying in our hotels
- Doctors
and other health care professionals will be attracted to live and work in
our health-conscious city that provides the
services and amenities that they seek for their own families

DELIVERING REAL ECONOMIC IMPACT
The Moose Jaw and District Chamber of Commerce commissioned
an
independent study on the economic impact of the Multiplex project
on the
local and provincial economies. Over one year’s construction
and 10 years
of operation, the Multiplex project will add:
- $16.3 million to Moose Jaw GDP ($25.1 million to provincial
GDP)
- $13.4 million in new wages and salaries in Moose
Jaw
($18.3 million in new wages and salaries province wide)
- An
average of 81.7 new jobs in Moose Jaw
(95 new jobs across the province) each year
- 100 new jobs
in the rest of the province during construction
BOOSTING MOOSE JAW’S COMPETITIVE
ADVANTAGE
Saskatchewan’s economic forecast is extremely positive for coming years.
As a result, the need to recruit and retain young workers will be higher
than ever. Amenities like the Multiplex facilities will boost Moose Jaw’s
competitive advantage as the “community of choice” for the many people
coming to work in the Moose Jaw –
Regina Corridor, a crucial economic
engine for the province.
“It can become an economic engine. It can attract tourists.
It is critical
for the future of the Oilers and the city.”
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman addressing the Edmonton
Chamber of Commerce on Dec. 16, highlighting the economic
advantages of investing in a new downtown arena
